Revamping a wooden chair:

Revamping a wooden chair

A small chair found in the loft, dirty from its travels, could be considered ideal for a child's nursery. A distressed paint scheme is envisaged for the chair. The scheme will match the room decor and a hand-painted design on the seat and back support will give the chair its own individual character.

YOU WILL NEED
Sugar soap, Rag, Glass paper, Emulsion, 1 in brush, Pencil, Tracing paper, Artist's brushes, Artist's acrylic colors

Step 1 The wood surface is sanded down using medium followed by fine glass paper, to give a smooth finish prior to painting.

Step 2 The entire chair was painted with a first coat of red emulsion.

Step 3 A second coat (pale blue emulsion) was over painted.

Step 6 The tree design is painted using artist's acrylic paints and a number 5 artist's brush.

Step 7 Flowers and leaves are added using a finer brush and bright acrylic colors.

Step 8 Finally a protective coat of clear satin varnish was brushed on.

The chair was cleaned with sugar soap first, so that dirt and grease wouldn't clog the abrasive and the paint would then go on evenly.
